Detailing Guide

The Interior Detailing Process, Step by Step

Good interior detailing follows a strict order: top to bottom, dry to wet, soft surfaces before glass. Working out of order means recontaminating what you already cleaned.

Here is the sequence we follow on every interior appointment in Sacramento.

The sequence

  • Remove trash and personal items so every surface is reachable
  • Dry vacuum thoroughly, including seat rails, under seats and the cargo area
  • Compressed air and detail brushes to lift dust out of vents, seams and textured plastic
  • Pre-treat stains and heavily soiled areas and let the chemistry dwell
  • Agitate and extract carpets and cloth seating
  • Clean and condition leather; dress plastics with a non-glare finish
  • Clean interior glass last so nothing settles back onto it

Why glass goes last

Interior glass picks up overspray from every other step. Cleaning it first guarantees you will be cleaning it again. In Sacramento, windshields also carry a heat-driven film from the dashboard off-gassing, which needs a dedicated cleaner rather than a quick wipe.

Frequently asked questions

Will my carpets be wet afterward?

Slightly damp. In dry Sacramento weather they usually dry within a few hours with the windows cracked.

Should I remove my child seats?

Yes if you can — the area underneath is almost always the dirtiest part of the vehicle.
