The order of operations matters more than any single product. Dust must be flooded off before anything touches the paint, or the wash itself installs the swirl marks that show up under the next bright afternoon.
Our exterior sequence
- Wheels, tires and wells cleaned first so their fallout never lands on clean paint
- Pre-rinse and foam soak to soften and float off Central Valley dust
- Contact wash using clean media and frequent rinsing
- Chemical decontamination for embedded iron particles and brake dust
- Clay bar treatment where the paint still feels rough after washing
- Protection — wax, sealant or coating maintenance — plus dressed tires and cleaned glass
What Sacramento does to exterior paint
UV exposure is the big one. Sustained summer sun degrades unprotected clear coat, dulls color and accelerates oxidation on older single-stage finishes, especially on horizontal panels — hoods, roofs and trunk lids fail long before doors do.
Then there is sprinkler overspray. Hard water from residential irrigation dries on hot paint and leaves mineral deposits; if those bake repeatedly they etch into the clear coat. Tree sap from valley oaks and pines, plus bird droppings, do the same thing faster.
Protection options
Carnauba wax gives the warmest look and the shortest life. A synthetic paint sealant lasts substantially longer and handles heat better, which is why it is our default for vehicles parked outside here. A ceramic coating is the long-term option, with real chemical resistance and much easier washing, at a higher upfront cost and with prep requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Can you wash in direct sun?
We prefer shade or early morning. Hot panels dry products too quickly and cause water spotting, so we plan the appointment around it.
Do you clean engine bays?
We offer light engine bay cleaning on request. It is a conservative process — we do not pressure wash modern engine compartments.
Will exterior detailing remove swirl marks?
No. Swirls require machine polishing — see paint correction. Exterior detailing makes the paint clean and protected, not corrected.
